The competition season is off to a great start. The new rules have been locked down for at least 3 years and many of you are working on massive rebuilds. The competition season is about to kick into high gear and we are looking forward to another great year.
In this update I will be discussing several topics of great interest to our members.
Memberships – We expect to begin activating memberships within the next few days. This year, there are almost 1000 tracks on dB Jams V22! It is taking more time than expected to finalize all of these tracks, but we have been notified that the production is nearly finished. Members will receive a welcome email when the memberships are active.
Bonus Points - Paid members will receive bonus points retroactively for all events that they have participated in this season.
dB Jams V22 – This season we will not be producing a physical CD. (There are almost 1000 tracks on dB Jams V22!) Some members have expressed interest in using a physical CD for competition. The dBDRA will now allow competitors to use last year’s CD (dB Jams V21) at multi-point events IF the competitor is a current member of the dBDRA.
Slamology – As of today, the event will take place as scheduled.
Finals – We have identified a potential venue for the Finals. Hopefully we will be making an announcement regarding the location soon. One of the holdups is the very real possibility that public gatherings may be restricted due to Covid-19. The dBDRA is required to pre-pay for the facility and insurance carriers do not cover pandemic situations. We are pressing for a cancellation clause in the contract to minimize economic exposure.
Finals Invitation Requirements – The points requirements for the Finals have not been posted yet because we are uncertain on the impact Coronavirus will have on our competitors. So, far, participation this year has been excellent. The next 2 weeks or so should really give us an indication as to will happen in North America. Our friends and partners in Europe have already been impacted and we are watching the situation closely.
Coronavirus – The Covid-19 pandemic is creating major havoc globally. Many individuals have been impacted and it looks like it is only going to get worse before it gets better. As an organization, we must all do our part to help prevent the spread of this disease. Please visit https://coronavirus.gov for specific information on best practices and preparation.
