USAC & dB Drag Racing Announce Pact
For Immediate Release
10/23/1998
USAC and dB Drag Racing have announced an agreement that will bring dB Drag Racing to the USAC World Finals in November and allow the co-location of sound-off events in 1999.
USAC President Ralph Randall and dB Drag Racing President Wayne Harris announced a coalition on October 22 that will bring dB Drag Racing to USAC’s 1998 Kansas City finale. The agreement also includes a co-marketing arrangement that will allow co-promotion and coordination of USAC and dB Drag Racing events in 1999.
The agreement does not affect the upcoming dB Drag Racing World Finals set for November 14 and 15 in Nashville, TN.
“This agreement shows our ability to work together,” said Randall from his office in Mississippi. “Greater cooperation among the sanctioning organizations is something the industry wants. This is an arrangement that will benefit everyone. We see it as the precursor to greater industry unification in the future.”
The dB Drag Racing concept has been part of the USAC and IASCA World Finals for the past two years. However, in May of this year Harris announced that his organization would conduct its own finals apart from both USAC and IASCA. This new arrangement, said Harris, makes sense for both dB Drag Racing and USAC.
“USAC has a very established infrastructure for providing retailers with successful turn-key events,” said Harris. “dB Drag Racing is an exciting, spectator-oriented event that’s growing rapidly in popularity. We each bring certain strengths to the table, and the combination will create great results.”
Harris said the dB Drag Racing event in Kansas City will be a triple-point event and kick-off the 1999 competition season. “The fact that it will be the first triple-point event of the new year will create enormous excitement for SPL competitors,” he noted.
USAC, meanwhile, will conduct its own array of SPL events in Kansas City, including Outlaw SPL, Extreme Outlaw, and the new Bass Olympics format. “With dB Drag Racing, this becomes the ultimate show for people who are into bass and SPL,” said Randall.
Terms of the new agreement will allow USAC Regional Directors to promote dB Drag Racing events either in conjunction with USAC-sanctioned shows or as independent dB Drag events. Likewise, USAC competitions will become part of many dB Drag Racing events. Harris said there are no plans for a formal
merger of the two organizations, although greater cooperation is the ultimate goal.
“This is the beginning of a new era of cooperation in the industry,” he explained.
USAC expects 250 competitors in the sound quality and SPL competitions. The USAC World Finals also will include a car and truck show, a hydraulics competition, and a “Glow Off” event featuring vehicles with
neon lighting.
USAC is the oldest car audio sanctioning body, celebrating its 11 th year with the Kansas City world finals.
