New “Entry Level” Division for 2002

Mini Street Division

One of the primary objectives of the dB Drag Racing Association is to stimulate interest in auto sound and auto sound competition. Experience has shown that once an individual starts competing in dB Drag Racing, his or her interest in the sport will grow rapidly. The key to growth is to involve first time competitors initially so that they can experience the fun and excitement that dB Drag Racing has to offer.

In 2002, the dBDRA is pleased to announce the formation of a new division of competition that is specifically designed for “first time” or “entry level” contestants. This new division is called the Mini Street Division. The Mini Street Division is an optional division of competition that we feel should be included at every dB Drag Racing contest. The Mini Street Division is set up in such a way as to permit the show promoter the flexibility necessary to ensure success in his or her local market.

The guidelines for including the Mini Street Division as part of a regular dB Drag Racing contest are as follows….

The show promoter may offer 1 or more classes in the Mini Street Division. Each class in this division must begin with the name “Mini Street” in order to differentiate the class or classes from the standard dB Drag Racing divisions and classes. Acceptable names include, “Mini Street 1”, “Mini Street 2”, “Mini Street 10”, “Mini Street 12”, etc. Please note that the words “Mini Street” must appear as the first two words in the class name.

Any points accrued while competing in a Mini Street class will not be included when calculating a competitor’s eligibility for the World Finals. In other words, only points accrued in the standard divisions (Street, Super Street, and Extreme) will be used to determine a competitor’s eligibility for participation at the World Finals.

The Mini Street Division will not be offered at the dB Drag Racing World Finals.

The maximum recommended fee for entry into the Mini Street Division shall be $10.00. We strongly recommend that the entry fee for this Division be kept to an absolute minimum.

Trophies or certificates must be awarded to 1^st-3^rd place winners in each Mini Street class. (Please see the accompanying resource CD-ROM for professionally designed certificates.)

The show promoter is encouraged to use one or more of the following restrictions to determine eligibility for competing in the Mini Street Division.

Geographic Restrictions – The show promoter may restrict participation in the Mini Street division to competitors who live within a specific geographic location such as a city, county, or state. A valid driver’s license or vehicle registration would be used to determine eligibility.

Amateur Only Restriction – The show promoter may restrict competitors who work in the auto sound industry from participating in the Mini Street Division.

Retail Value Restriction – The show promoter may restrict participation in the Mini Street Division to competitors who have systems with a total retail value that is below a specified dollar amount.

Equipment Restrictions – The show promoter may restrict participation in the Mini Street Division to competitors who have systems with a maximum wattage, a maximum woofer size, or a maximum cone area.

Performance Restrictions – The show promoter may limit the maximum SPL that can be achieved in the Mini Street Division. For example, the show promoter could allow competitors to sign up for a class in the Mini Street Division, and then if a given competitor were to post an SPL that is higher than a specified SPL during qualifying, that competitor would automatically be moved up into one of the standard divisions of competition (Street, for example).

Experience Restrictions – The show promoter may restrict participation in the Mini Street Division to competitors who have limited experience competing. For example, the show promoter may prohibit anyone who has ever placed 1^st-3^rd from entering the Mini Street Division.

The rules for the Mini Street Division are the same as those used for the Street Division with the following exceptions.

Classification in the Mini Street Division is determined by one or more of the optional restrictions listed above.

The optional restrictions listed above supercede any other conflicting rules when compared with rules for the standard Street Division of competition.

EXAMPLES

The two examples below represent just a few of the ways in which the Mini Street Division can be offered. Please keep in mind that the show promoter has GREAT discretion over the number of Mini Street classes AND the restrictions placed upon entry into those classes. For example, a promoter might have none, 1, 2, 3 or more Mini Street classes. The classes might be divided by cone area, power, cost, woofer size, or any combination of these items. The show promoter should select the criteria best suited for his or her particular market.

Example 1

The Mini Street Division is intended for entry level competitors only. Only contestants who live in Tarrant county may enter. (A valid driver’s license will be required to enter.) If you are employed by the auto sound industry you may not participate in this division.

Two Mini Street classes will be offered. The entry fee is $5.00 and retries are free.

Mini Street 0-100

Competitors are limited to a maximum cone area of 100 square inches.

Mini Street 101-250

Competitors are limited to a maximum cone area of 250 square inches.

Example 2

The Mini Street Division is intended for entry level competitors only. If you are employed by the auto sound industry or you have previously placed 1^st-3^rd at another dB Drag Racing contest, you may not participate in this division.

Two Mini Street classes will be offered. Entry is free.

Mini Street 1

Competitors are limited to a maximum of 2 each 8-inch woofers and a maximum power of 300 watts.

Mini Street 2

Competitors are limited to a maximum of 2 each 10-inch woofers and a maximum power of 500 watts.
